The emerging field of nanotechnology is exploding fast upon the world, and its promises are at once exciting and unnerving. An examination of medical and military applications and their implications. Microscopic surgery. Cancer-killing armies of viral-detonating nanobots injected into the body. Some of these technologies seem to verge on quantum physics wherein electrons CAN be in two places at the same time. Basic nanomachines are already in use. Nanobots will be the next generation of nanomachines. Advanced nanobots will be able to sense and adapt to environmental stimuli such as heat, light, sounds, surface textures, and chemicals; perform complex calculations; move, communicate, and work together; conduct molecular assembly; and, to some extent, repair or even replicate themselves. Interviews with experts who explain all this to us, as well as ethicists and a lone opponent.
